Description
A rectangular area with walling on two sides to south-west of house. At presnt only the north-west and soth-west walls exist. They arebuilt of brick on the inside and stone to outer side. There is an arched and domed alcove in the south-west wall at the internal corne, once with a semi-circular seat. A projecting sculpted stone head has been inserted above the alcove's brick arch.
The stone head is of greenish sandstone, and was once free standing. It has a circular base, perhaps formerly mounted on a column. The frightening face is male with mouth open and teeth showing. It has a double line from nose to lower lip to emphasis its anger. A triple line marking the eyebrows curves round the eyes sharply reversing around the cheek shape and finishing in a forward return of hand like shape. The head is very curved and smooth with a raised area of receeding hair, mostly buried in the wall.
