Terminal station for the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway (nprn 43037), opened in 1903 to link the market town of Welshpool to the rural community of Llanfair Caereinion. The station is the operational centre of the railway, with locomotive sheds, workshops, signal box (nprn 415835), &c; restoration of the line as a tourist steam railway, following closure as a 'working' line in 1956, started at Llanfair until Raven Square (nprn 415216) in Welshpool was reached in 1981.
