Owein a flandrensibus in estrat brunus occiditur (Gough-Cooper, c437.3).
Translation: Owain was killed by the Flemings in Ystrad Rwnws (Brunus) (Remfry, 213).
The Brutiau provide further detail about events (but not the location) and note that the Flemings pursued Owain ap Cadwgan, a prince of Powys, from Carmarthen and then that on catching up with him and his men:
Gwedy bwrw saethau o pop tu, y dygwydawd Ywein yn vrathedic. A gwedy y dygwydaw ef, yd ymhoelawd y getymdeithion ar ffo (Jones, 98).
Translation: After Arrows had been shot on either side Owain fell wounded. And after he had fallen, his comrades turned to flight (Jones, 99).
A property called `Lann Teliau Mainaur Brunus? is mentioned in the Book of Llandaf , (Evans and Rhys, 254 and 287) and was situated at Llandeilo Rwnws (modern name Llandeilo-yr-ynys, SN 494 203). Ystrad Isaf is also nearby at SN 487 210. This vicinity fits well with the available sources.
