Description
Stepaside Ironworks were established in 1848-49. By 1853 the works were at a standstill, but Grove Colliery (NPRN 33586) was sunk in 1853 to provide fuel, though production of both coal and iron was intermittent until 1859. By 1862 the works were again at a standstill, only to be revived again in 1863. 1868 saw a further decline and the complex was sold to Bonville's Court Coal and Iron Company around 1873. The works finally closed in 1877 and were dismantled in 1887-89. The chimney stack above the furnaces was eventually demolished in 1909. The ironworks were formerly served by the Saundersfoot Railway (NPRN 43051).
