Description
The Dinas Bridge Fire Brick Works of Fredericks and Jenner was opened in 1820. The works produced silica refractory bricks and became internationally well-known; the Russian word for refractory brick is `Dinas'. The OS 1/2500 (1877) shows at least four circular kilns at this site, and sand pits to the east at SN91130799. The flooded pits are still visible, between the road and the river. The works had closed by 1904.
