DescriptionIn the Incorporating Mills, the `Green Charge was milled and compressed by large mill wheels until it formed a homogenous mass. The group of three mills was built in 1898, (No.27B on the Nobel Plan) and named the Sudan Mills. The mill wheels were of the iron edge-runner type, i.e. vertical, overdriven, and were originally powered by a waterwheel, later replaced by a 25hp turbine, situated below the mills, close to the river. The mills have been demolished but their footings are partly visible. The remains of the brick-built turbine house are extant, as is a long, concrete tail-race running alongside the river, at the water's edge.
