Description
A corning house, where the pieces of compressed slab were reduced to grains by crushing and then sorted into various sizes by sieving, (No.33 on the Nobel Plan). The building was built before 1877, and served by a loop off the tramway. It was powered by a waterwheel (No.60 on the Nobel Plan) down beside the river, fed by the Upper Leat (NPRN:405081). Constructed in masonry, the shell of the building survives relatively intact, apart from the roof and the south wall, but is devoid of any architectural detail. The waterwheel pit has been destroyed by later river bank strengthening works.
