Description
A glazing house (No.39 on the Nobel Plan), where gunpowder required for quarry blasting work was polished by rotation in barrels with graphite so that it would permeate more easily into cracks in the rock. It was built before 1877 and was served by a loop on the tramway. Power was provided by a 12/15HP turbine, housed to the south, on the opposite side of the tramway. The foundations of the glazing house survive. To the east the masonry piers carrying the launder for the Upper Leat (NPRN:405081), which passed along the south side of the building, remain intact. The structure attached to the east end of the building appears to have been a stable (No.61 on the Nobel Plan). Traces of the turbine house remain with walls standing up to 0.7m high.
