Description
Probably built by Samuel Wyatt c.1779, for Viscount Bulkeley. It is a north east facing icehouse it has a bricked face entrance, opening into an 11m long tunnel with two doors, which leads to a 5m in diameter and 8.5m deep domed brick chamber; the top of the dome is 3.7m above ground level. The dome was covered with slates over the brick, presumably forming a damp proof course between the bricking and the earth piled above. The base is covered by rubbish but clearly pointed in shape.
