DescriptionSituated some 17m beyond (east) of the ffridd wall (NPRN: 405565) is a slate working area, some 110m in extent. This comprises of a scatter of waste fragments resulting from the exploitation of nearby stone, and was most likely used in the construction of a number of medieval settlements (NPRNs 405537, 405538, 405539), and monastic sheepcote (NPRN 300571) situated on the slopes below. A section of hollow way (NPRN 405560), pre-dating the ffridd wall, may well have connected the slate working area with these sites.
This feature was recorded by RCAHMW in 2006 as part of a wider study of the Troed y Rhiw area (NPRN 405578).
