Description
Former theatre behind No 38 The Watton (NPRN 16417), possibly with late eighteenth century origins.
A tall, one storey building with early nineteenth century external details, under a hipped slate roof. The north-west wall shows four tall sash windows and a blocked doorway. The stage was at the north-east end and entry was via No 38, then the New Inn.
OS first edition Brecon Town Plan (1888) shows the theatre and No 38 as separate properties. In 1904 (OS County series second edition Brecknock. XXVIII.13) both are part of a brewery, as is the adjoining warehouse, built in 1894 (NPRN 85129). The theatre communicates with the warehouse and is thought to have been re-roofed when it was constructed.
