Description
The quarry, with its canalised entrance channel (250m in length), is shown on OS 1st edition 25in mapping. The quarry contains at least 5 wharf/docks complexes. The first dock, near the entrance on the northern side of the channel, measures 24m x 11m (SN03310509). The second is at terminius of the northern arm of the water channel and has three branches forming quays and a warping/turning area (SN03400531). The third and fourth branch from the terminus of the southern arm of the channel (SN03460529 and SN03500521). A trackway leads down to the quarry from the former farmstead of Tilling Barn. The quarry has also features a queuing/traffic regulation channel (SN033850522). The quarry is noted as disused by time of the compilation of the OS 2nd edition 25in mapping, by which time dock 4 had been cut off to facilitate the re-routing of access to the Tilling Barn farmstead. The quarry is now the Tything Barn Naturist Caravan and Camping Site.
