DescriptionYnysmeudwy lengthman's Hut
A shed of uncertain date survives alongside Lock 12 on the `island' between the lock-chamber and by-pass. This shed has rendered walls, wrought-iron door and fireplace. It may the sole survivor on this canal of a `lengthman's station' where tolls could be collected in some comfort if a fire was in the hearth. The roof overhead also ensured that the toll log-book (of which some survive) was protected from the weather. The canal company proposed to put a house for the lengthsman near here in 1826 and this may be the result of their action.
