Description
Dolgellau's Market Hall was completed in 1870 to serve the booming textile and tannery industries, as well as the social networks of the town which were catered to by the Assembly Rooms above the covered market area. The hall is constructed from snecked rubble masonry with a moderately pitched hipped Welsh slate roof. The lower storey was open, with semi-circular arches supporting the floor above, though this has since been converted to individual enclosed shops. The Eldon Square elevation has a four arched arcade, with four windows above, while the Finsbury Square elevation has a six arched arcade with six windows above.
