The National School on Regent Street in Llangollen was built in 1840 (a British School followed in 1846 on Brook Street). With the post-1860 expansion of the town, more schools were needed so the Regent Street school was greatly extended in 1871 in the new Gothic style. The building is now in use as a community hall, and a plaque notes the date of the school.
