Description
High Trees, Chepstow is a large, late Georgian gentleman's residence. The walls are rendered and there is a hipped slate roof behind a coped parapet, with deep moulded eaves cornice and long, narrow, rendered stacks. The building is two storeyed. The entrance frontage has a projecting 3-window range. The house was originally called Bellevue and was inhabited by James Dowie, wine merchant and later by Thomas Atkins who built the gas works. In 1889 the name was changed. The house was converted to Chepstow Boys Grammar School in 1871 and to the District Council offices 1954. At present it is a Registry Office.
