Description
The cart-house and stable range is a stone-built, slate-roofed structure with a date stone of 1831. The buildings are likely to be converted to holiday accommodation in the future.
They consist of a 4-unit cart-house with dressed stone arched openings and a stable with former stalls for 4 horses at the lower end and a loose-box at the upper end. A lean-to range turns at right-angles towards an original gated entrance adjacent to a former cow-house (now holiday accommodation). The roofs are supported by king-post roof-trusses throughout with lofts over the stable, loose-box and upper end cart-house.

The cart-house is of 3-bays with an extra bay at an angle next to the loose-box, all with dressed stone segmental arched openings south to the south elevation and semi-circular arched openings over. A date-stone of 1831 is inscribed on the central post between the segmental arches.

The stable is a typical central-entry type with flanking windows to its south elevation and lateral feed mangers with hay rack and former stalls. It has 3 trusses set above 3 chamfered ceiling-beams formerly with joists to loft floor (removed).
The feed hay-drop frame and mangers survive with mortise in frame posts to indicate the position of former boarded stall framing. The timber boarded manger is supported by horizontal timbers set into wall and nailed to frame posts.
At the lower end of the stable an area has been partitioned by a stone wall to provide 2 pig sties with entries for pigs in the gable-end, at a lower level. These sties have exterior yards with brick details and the interior has a timber board ceiling, perhaps once for poultry above. There is an access doorway in the front elevation against the barn corner which is rounded at this point to make access easier.

The loose-box at the upper-end has a dressed stone doorway to its south front and dressed stone arch to adjacent cart-house. The later north and west wall has four ventilation splays, oddly two of them angle towards each other.
The adjacent cart-house is sub-divided with a rear doorway and window to a small rear space. A straight-joint in the west wall and cross-walls of the upper cart-house indicates building was narrower and has been widened.

The original entrance gate (see photo) is retained in a recess designed for it in the adjacent former cow-house.

The building was notified to us by Alice Pyper of Dyfed Archaeological Trust, through the Tir Gofal scheme and recorded by Geoff Ward & Nicola Roberts, 04/06/2008.
