Description
On the S bank of the stream at 427m OD is a longhut of three compartments possibly built on a preexisting foundation which was (at least partly) incorporated into the new building.
Overall the building measures 14.2m (NE-SW) by 3.8m. The two bays on the NE, apparently parts of a single building, measure 8.4m by 3.8m overall. The larger of the two is 6.4m by 3.8m (4m by 2.3m internally). Its walls are 0.65m thick and rise to 0.5m high above the rubble-strewn interior. There is an entrance gap 0.75m wide in the centre of the W wall. The bay was possibly partitioned. This is suggested by a large edge-set slab set against the N wall but its alignment with the entrance gap makes it improbable unless it originally formed only a partial partition. The smaller bay is 3m by 1.2m and is largely obscured by rubble.
The third bay is on a N-S alignment. It measures 6.6m (N-S) by 5.2m overall and is defined by tumbled walls forming banks 1.2m wide and 0.6m high with a possible entrance at the N end of the W wall adjacent to the middle bay.
The different alignment of this compartment together with the northwards projection of its E wall/bank slightly beyond the central bay, reinforce the idea of an earlier building perhaps partially re-used in the new build, the old orientation retained here to ensure the stream bank edge was avoided.
