In October 1848 the Aberdare British Schools (Park y Comin; Ysgol-y-Comin; Comin County Junior school) was opened in Trecynon; an infants' school was later erected to the south. Both buildings have pitched slate roofs; the junior school buildings have rendered stone rubble walls and the infants' school has coursed rubble walls with blue brick dressings to the openings.
