Description
In the nineteenth century, Nant Peiran was harnessed to power a sawmill near the stream's confluence with the Ystwyth. It first appears on an estate plan of 1864 and was described in 1870 as 'A capital sawmill, driven by water power . . . and bone mill attached'. The wheel was still in place in 1941 when it was photographed by George Tarrant, son of the then owner of Hafod, W.G Tarrant. The sawmill is now a private house.
