DescriptionBridgend Market Hall was opened in 1837 by the Earl of Dunraven following the Bridgend Market Act of the previous year, which directed that the town's large agricultural and livestock market could no longer be held in the streets surrounding the Town Hall (NPRN 31742). In 1906 the Dunraven family replaced the hall with a new, fully covered building, which the Bridgend Urban District Council bought for the town in 1955.
In 1972 the Market Hall was demolished and the Tennis Court Hotel was built on the site. A new Market Hall was opened south of the original site, on The Rhiw, and remains in use to this day. The Tennis Court Hotel has since been replaced by a commercial outlet.
