Description
The composite waterwheel is fitted into a narrow slot in a long range of traditional stone farm buildings. It is 10ft (3.04 metres) in diameter and 2ft (0.6 metres) wide, on a 3-inch (0.075 metres) square iron axle. The cast iron shrounds are built up from eight sections, and carry wooden buckets. It was not possible to see the first stage of the transmission, but in another part of the building a short iron shaft carries two wooden flat belt wheels on either side of a partition wall, and a patent oat crusher stood nearby.
Water was stored in a small pond on the hillside above, bounded by a rock outcrop on one side and walled on the other. The track of an undegound leat in places covered by stone slabs, could be traced to the rear of the farm buildings.
