Description
The lower section of this double-pitch incline descended a further 165 metres to the floor of Cwm Croesor, where it made a junction with the Croesor Tramway. Alternating cuttings and stone-built embankments maintain the gradient of 26 degrees. The NGR refers to the drum house of the incline as built c1863, set back from the head of the incline to allow space to manouvre waggons transferred from the upper pitch (NPRN 408877).
In about 1890 the incline was extended upwards by 40 metres to connect with a new tramway from Fron Boeth Quarry which tunneled through the ridge (NPRN 408883). The old drum house was partly buried under a new embankment, and a new one built at SH6459845231 which survives in fair condition.
