Description
Bryn Ffawydd was designed by the outstanding Arts and Crafts architect Herbert Luck North (1871-1941), who lived and worked in Llanfairfechan from c.1901. It was built c.1928 and stands in a prominent position in The Close, a `village? of houses developed by North throughout his life on land owned by his family.

It is a longish house, its living rooms in a line at the front, facing the sun and the views, and the entrance, hall, staircase etc. at the rear. The front elevation is symmetrical, with gabled ends each side of the central section (which has a big hipped dormer lighting the middle bedrooms); the rear elevation is less formal, with a Gothic-headed entrance doorway and a window tucked below the eaves, for the staircase. The extension at the east end was added later (not by North). The stepped brick chimneys, roughcast walls and steep slated roofs are typical of North.

The interior is much altered; features which survive include parts of the staircase, which runs lengthwise along the back of the passage/landing, some of the doors and the exposed beams of the ground-floor ceilings. In the living room, the main beams are supported at the ends with attractive raking struts, recalling vernacular detailing.
