DescriptionWentwood Reservoir was completed by Newport Corporation 1896-1903, and opened in 1904, after geological difficulties crippled Glasgow contractors. There is a two and half mile tunnel from Castroggy Brook to the north. The dam was constructed using locally-quarried stone with an aerial ropeway from the east for clay. The area of the trout reservoir is 16.6 ha (41 acre) and it is located on the edge of Wentwood Forest. The site was photographed during aerial reconnaissance on 11 June 2009 by RCAHMW.
