Description
Situated in the heart of Mynydd Hiraethog (Denbigh Moors) some 400m above sea level are the isolated remains of a farm. The farm is defined by a boundary bank and ditch (NPRN 268847) that delineates a roughly oval enclosure encompassing 25 hectares.

The Nant y foel stream runs through the farm and centrally placed, in a relatively sheltered position, are the remains of a farmstead (NPRN 268855). Also within the farm boundary there is surviving evidence for a series of field boundaries and cultivation (NPRNs 409863, 409862), together with possible signs of peat cutting (NPRN 409864).

The farm does not appear in any documents and was not included on the Tithe of 1841. In the medieval period these moors were exploited for grazing during the summer months; therefore it cannot be discounted that the farm grew out of what was originally a seasonally occupied settlement, commonly termed a hafod. By the 16th century farms were being developed on the higher ground of the moor, the new holdings illicitly carved out of the unenclosed `waste?. It is likely that the Nant y Foel Farm belongs to this period.
