Description
Several sites near Trostrey have been claimed by A. G. Mein as having military associations. On the basis of aerial reconniassance by J. Sorrell two possible forts or camps have been postulated at Trostrey Court Farm (NGR: SO 362 043), east and south-east of Trostrey Church, one with its main axis aligned east/west, the other apparently more to the north-east/south-west. Though neither has yet been subjected to excavation, it is somewhat surprising that, despite extensive fieldwalking over a number of years, no Roman material has been recovered from the immediate vicinity. While it is possible that both were short-lived camps associated with the military activity at Usk, caution should perhaps be exercised on this point pending confirmation through excavation.
