The house was formerly a schoolteacher's house, part of Manod School (NPRN 416065) to which it was physically attached. The school has been demolished and replaced by new buildings, and Rhyd has a new north gable wall where it was formerly joined to the school buildings. The house retains the first-floor gothic pointed windows and steep-pitched roof characteristic of the school buildings.
