A tannery is shown on the first edition (1886) of the Ordnance Survey 25in map and it is believed that it was working until very recently, although not in its original buildings. Water was supplied via a lengthy leat, some 1.71km long, from a weir across the River Dulais and augmented on its course by the Nant Criciad; a former corn mill (nprn 410643) adjacent to the tannery also used the water.
