Description
A row of nine terrace houses with shop fronts at ground-floor level, constructed between 1882 and 1920 as part of the planned expansion and redevelopment of Pontypool. Numbers 124 - 126 were the last to be built in the terrace, dating from between 1901 and 1920, with the remaining having been constructed between 1882 and 1901. Although originally constructed as nine separate units, two shops now occupy more: Betfred, 2 units, and Wetherspoons, 3 units. Whilst each shop front varies depending on the nature of its individual business, the first and second floors remain in the same style across the entire facade of the nine units; a single central canted bay window consisting of four sash windows and a shallow pitched roof at first floor level; at the second floor level each has three sash windows across the facade with painted stone cantilevers rising to support the eaves. At the first floor level there is a moulded stone bead that runs the length of the terrace. The terrace is constructed of dressed limestone block, with white brick window reveals. The roof and several bay windows are slated.
