Description
Possibly erected between 1901 and 1920 on the footprint of an existing structure that occupied the site in the decades preceding. The Town Plan map of 1881 and the later map of Ordnance Survey 25 inch map of 1920 demonstrate the change between the orientation and size of the earlier buildings compared to the structure we see today. The shop front is believed to be original, dating from c. 1920 and today it is two separate units with a main front entrance that then splits internally into a Barbers and a Hair Salon. The frontage is constructed of a shallow brick plinth, from which wooden window frames rise with large glass panes that are sign written, from the top of the window raises a wooden panel before ending with a canopy. The building is constructed of red brick, with three first floor single casement windows, stone sills and brick heads with ornamental key stones. A small decorated cornice rises into the eaves, with a slate roof topping the building.
