The King George Field in Pontardawe was split in 2003 following a decision by Fields in Trust Cymru to allow the local authority to construct a swimming pool on an unsuitable part of the original site. This led to the nearby Parc Ynysderw being created as a King George site in 2003.

The original situated on Brynawel covered an area of 4 acres. The local authority, Pontardawe Rural District Council, was awarded a grant by the King George's Fields Foundation of £2,400 towards the total capital outlay of £20,434. The site features a bowling green and tennis courts.
