Description
A trench has been cut obliquely into rising ground on the steep, east-facing slopes of the Llia valley. It measures 16.5m long (NW-SE) by 3.7m and 1.5m deep on the uphill side. Debris has been discarded on the downhill, north-east, side forming a grassy bank with loose rubble beyond it. It has the appearance of a trench cut by prospectors rather than by quarrymen. What they were searching for is unclear though it was believed, in the early nineteenth century, that coal was to be found in the Brecon Beacons (1).
