Description
The Tremadog Manufactory was built in 1805 as a woollen mill by William Madocks, as part of his development of the new town of Tremadog. By 1806 it had two carding engines worked by water power, and it became one of the earliest integrated woollen mills in Wales, with carding, spinning and weaving, the latter having formerly been done in the home. By 1810 it had a large production of various types of cloth, much of it for soldiers' uniforms. It ceased making cloth in 1816, and in c1832 it became a tannery, later a laundry; it is now derelict.

The building has five storeys facing south-eastwards, but only three storeys at the rear. It is constructed of coarse rubblestone with occasional long quoins, under a hipped roof now covered with corrugated iron. Its five bays of windows are regularly spaced, with heavy monolithic slate lintels. The gable ends have two bays of smaller windows, and stone chimney stacks.
