DescriptionNow a bank, this building was built c1849 by Alfred Lockwood on the site of the former court leet of the Manor of Mold as a Market hall and Assembly rooms. Erected by the Mold Market Company, it was purchased by the Mold Local Board in 1882. A second storey was added in 1874 but was then removed during restorations in 1985.
It has a three- bay pedimented classical front and is built from uncoursed rubble with rusticated ashlar quoins on the plinth. It has a new slate roof with bracketed eaves and a bulls eye bearing clock within a bracketed pediment. The first floor has a large central window flanked by twelve-pane modern sashes. There is a central doorway with a keystoned round arch on impost blocks flanked by similar windows to the ground floor. There is a seven-bay side elavation with a central doorway and similar fenestration to the front. A number of windows are blocked on the north side. A central round arched doorway at the rear gives access to the first floor, with flanking windows. There are modern fittings.
