Fairbourne Station is the southerly terminus of the Fairbourne Railway (nprn 41313) which has its origins in an 1895 horse-drawn tramway serving a brickworks. It runs some 3km from Fairbourne to a terminus (nprn 41311) at the tip of the bar opposite Barmouth at the mouth of the Mawddach estuary, where it connects with a seasonal ferry to Barmouth. The track layout includes a passing loop and several sidings serving the locomotive sheds and carriage sheds.
