Description
Lovell's Athletic Club was a substantial recreational facility associated with the Lovell's sweet factory in Newport. The site featured a football ground with two stands along the southern and western sides of the pitch, several tennis courts, two bowling greens, and pavilions. The football ground was the home of the famous Lovell's Athletic FC who played at the ground from 1918 through to 1969 when the team folded although the ground itself remained in use until the late 1970s. Today the site is covered by a housing estate constructed in the early 1980s.
