Description
The Grand Hotel on Westgate Street was built in 1886, according to the designs of architect J. P. Jones, on the site of the Red Cow Public House and the Horse and Groom Public House. It was acquired by the former Welsh Rugby International Sydney Nicholls in 1894. Run by Nicholls until 1901 (when he took up Rugby League playing for Hull RLFC), the hotel was, for much of this period, also the home of the Cardiff Borough Cycling Club. The Hotel buildings are now occupied by luxury flats and a restaurant.
