The Penarth Lawn Tennis Club has continuously occupied this location on Rectory Road since it opened in 1884 although it is not marked on either of the 1st or 2nd series Ordnance Survey maps of the town. Now considered one of the oldest tennis clubs in the United Kingdom the site remains largely defined by its original dimensions although upgrades to the playing surface in the 1980s mean that the club offers year-round tennis on all-weather courts rather than being restricted to summer use.
