Central Surgery, Tredegar, was built by the Tredegar Medical Aid Society in 1911. The society had been established in the late 19th century supplying medical care to local subscribers. By 1933 the Society was supplying the medical needs of 95% of the local population, and was used as a model for Anuerin Bevan's formation of the National Health Service in 1948.
