Period18th Century
Description
Probably built in the late 18th or early 19th century, these sandstone sheds were built as part of the Upper Bank Works which were founded in the mid-18th century by London merchant Chauncey Townsend. The works closed in 1928 but were later used as part of a munitions factory. It is a squared brown rubble stone building with brick dressings and an asbestos sheet roof. There is one main range to the north and a narrower range to the south, the second range was wholly rebuilt in the twentieth century except for some stonework on the corner.

They are listed as rare survivals of late 18th or early nineteenth century smelting sheds, and are extremely important in the context of the industrial history of the lower Swansea valley.
