Description
Godfrey Road Carriage Shed is a remarkable survivor of the 1854 broad-gauge South Wales Railway yard which contained an engine shed, offices, a coal stage and water tank and the extant carriage and wagon shop. Inside the building there are ten bays and it is four tracks wide. It is a gabled single-storey building in limestone with slated roof. After wholesale conversion to narrow-gauge in 1872 the engine shed was demolished in 1916. Curiously, after 149 years locomotives again stable on the original site.
