The library was opened in June 1970 to serve the College of Librarianship Wales, designed by G.R. Bruce it was built by G.M. Jenkins and Sons of Tregaron at a cost of £135,000. In 1995 the library was renamed the Thomas Parry Library in honour of the former National Library of Wales Librarian and principal of the University of Wales Aberystwyth.
