Description
The open-air baths at Bedwellty Park in Tredegar were constructed in the early 1930s by local unemployed workers and officially opened in 1932. This was around ten years after the first efforts to build swimming baths in the town were initiated by the committee of the Tredegar Workmen's Institute but nevertheless demonstrated the importance of voluntary effort. A central feature of the park for half a century, the popularity of outdoor swimming began to wane in the 1980s. This led to the closure of the baths in 1987 and they were subsequently demolished.
