Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Aberdar is located in the village of Cwmdare, north of Aberdare town. Education through the medium of Welsh was established in Cwmdare in 1949, and the school moved to it's present building in 2003, teaching through the medium of Welsh. The school has approx. 410 pupils on roll, aged 3-11 years, from a catchment stretching from Hirwaun to Mountain Ash. It is maintained by Rhondda Cynon Taff Education Authority.
