Description
The slate tip was on the east bank of the Afon Barlwyd, and was created by the Welsh Slate Company which had run out of available land on its own side of the river at the Upper Quarry. The tip was accessed by a high tramway viaduct opf three spans, which crossed the river, a branch of the Festiniog Railway leading to Llechwedd Slate Quarries, and later the London & North Western Railway. A new slate mill was later built on top of the tip, but all was cleared away in the 1980s.
