Description
Part of the Maenofferen Slate Mine (NPRN 400427), the Engineering Workshop forms the western unit of a Workshop range (NPRN 415926). It measures 7.4m x 10.5m internally with a double doorway with fan light above and window to the east in the south wall, and two four light windows in the north wall. The interior walls are rendered and pained white and there is a concrete floor upon which tramway track continuing in from the exterior was laid. An internal door through the east partition wall leads to the Sawmill (NPRN 415929) whilst a door through the external west wall leads to a store, measuring 2.6m x 3.6m internally with a window in the south wall. This was constructed as an extension to the main range and has a single pitch slate roof. The engineering workshop was decommissioned in 1999 and the majority of the equipment left in situ, including a planer, belt-driven lathe, drill and grinding wheels, and the machinery driveshaft in the roof space.
