DescriptionWattstown Memorial Park opened, informally, in September 1921 but was formally opened on 25 April 1922 by Sir F. Shandforth Watts (the chairman of United National Collieries Ltd.). Covering six acres, the park initially consisted of a recreation ground used by local sports teams but developed, in subsequent years, into a park featuring bowling greens, tennis courts, children's play area, a swimming pool, and pavilion. Many of the original features, apart from the swimming pool, survive today.
