Description
Southerndown Golf Club began its life in 1905 with the registering of the Ogmore Down Golfing Society. Temporary golf links consisting of just 5 holes were opened in the autumn of 1905 and work on the laying out of a full 18-hole course began the following year. Laid out to the design of Willie Fernie, this course was used for a year before further redesigns took place. The last of these, carried out just after the First World War, were drawn up by the famous course designer Harry Colt and opened in 1920.

The course clubhouse was opened on 23 May 1907 by the Earl of Dunraven. It had cost £2,377 to build and was designed by E. M. Linton, a Newport Architect.
