The Grove Picture house opened on 11th April 1914 with 500 seats. The cinema was the nearest one to Dylan Thomas and he refers to his experiences at the cinema in his writings as "Hissing and Booing away his pocket money" at Saturday matinees.
The cinema closed around the time of the outbreak of the Second World War and the building later demolished. Lloyds Banks occupied the site until recently when a tanning studio took over.
